J I/R
San Juan County Historical Society
P.O. Box 154 Silverton, Colorado 81433
August 10, 2000
Larry Perino, General Manager
Sunnyside Gold Corporation yn
PO Box 177 G►" Q 2Qoo
Silverton, CO. 81433
tybn fM°Fle/dOffi
Dear Larry: / era/S& ce
Geo/°91'
I thought I would fill you in about our plans for the Jeannette Roux Placer,a piece of the
property that Sunmyside Gold donated to us as part'of—the Mayflower Mill donation. As
you know, that piece of property did not qualify for tax exempt status, so we are in the
position of having to do something with the property to help pay its way. As a small
historical society, we cannot afford to pay the taxes on that property. Two years ago, we
got a grant from the Economic Development Administration to develop a plan for the
area. Because of its location and because it is flat ground, we found that it would be ideal
for a business park. As a non-profit corporation, we could develop the park and rent
space at a relatively low rate to help businesses get a start in Silverton, something we
desperately need. There is great local and regional support for this project, and we have
decided to move forward with it.
We have been assured that the EDA will fund up to 80% of this project, and are now
applying for funds for the 20% match. We plan to install water, sewer, and electricity on
the property, and will be doing some seriously needed repair work on the powerhouse and
mule barn. We also plan to build some concrete pad sites for businesses to lease and put
buildings on. If everything goes well, we plan to start construction next summer. Because
of that, we think that the reclamation on the south side of the Jeannette Roux Placer fits
our needs at the moment and any further reclamation work will be wasted, as we will be
doing a lot of construction on the property. If it is possible, we would like to have the
south side (from the drainage ditch south) of the Jeannette Roux Placer removed from
your reclamation permit.
Thank you for any assistance you can give us on this matter.
Sincerely,
Beverly Rich
Chairman
Preserving the History of San Juan County, Colorado
