site will continue to flow to the "duck pond" .
Question:
7. The chemical storage building is almost complete.
Interior concrete berms were not poured with the
foundation. Chemicals stored (Sodium hydrosulfide,
Sodium cyanide, lime, etc. ) outside on pallets in a
bermed area awaiting transfer into the shed, are in a
direct path of an avalanche run. These materials
should be moved ASAP, especially prior to the next
snowfall .
Response:
The newly erected reagent warehouse at the Mayflower
Mill will only be used to store 50 pound bags of
hydrated lime. Reagents such as Sodium cyanide and
Sodium hydrosulfide are stored within the mill
building. Following delivery, small quantities of
these reagents may be stored outside for less than 48
hours until loader time is available to move them into
the mill . This was the case during the October 28 MLRD
inspection. The area in which the reagents are
temporarily stored is off the north end of the
facility; and it does not lie in an avalanche path, but
rather to the north of one.
Question:
8. Tailing Pond #1 toe adjacent to the state highway is
eroding - sediment being carried into road drainage
system. These areas require stabilization to minimize
disturbance to the hydrologic balance. Please discuss.
Response :
The face of tailings pond no. 1 will be sprayed with a
soil cementing agent in the spring of 1988 as soon as
field conditions will allow. A test spraying of the
upper surface of TP no. 1 was conducted in July 1987
with Wen-Don' s CPB-12 dust control agent. An agent
with sufficient durability to require one annual
treatment is being sought. This agent, once selected,
will be used during the spring 1988 spraying of the
outslope of TP no. 1 .
