Receiv
APR 3 pp1
0
D pn ofMnerald Office
/S&Geo/
RECLAMATION REPORT SUMMARY °9Y
Power House Area
Reclamation of the 7.44 acres included in this release request started in 1988. The old
Engineering Office was donated to the Town of Silverton in 1988 and moved from the
site. The basement was then back-filled to grade and planted with the seed mix for the
area"Mountain Mix".
In July of 1990, the area bordering the Animas River and southwest of the drainage ditch
was graded and seeded with the"Mountain Mix". The seeding rate was 22 lbs/acre with
mulch at 2000 lbs/acre and tackifier at 40 lbs/acre. Initial growth was poor, possibly due
to the one step procedure used to place the tackifier and mulch. It appeared that the seed
was held off the ground by the tackifier mixed with the mulch.
In 1992, after soil tests, the area was amended with limestone (2-5 tons per acre) and
fertilized with liquid fertilizer (40-45-50). Areas with poor growth were re-seeded with
the "Mountain Mix".
In 1993, vegetation was becoming established and the area was fertilized with liquid
fertilizer (7.17N, 5.38P, 8.96K).
In 1994, lupine and firewood seeds were spread and some aspen trees were planted in the
area.
In 1995, shrubs were planted in the area to add plant diversity and complete the
reclamation planting requirements in the reclamation plan for this area.
Sunnyside deeded the bulk of the area to the San Juan County Historical Society in 1996,
although there were small fractions that remained under Sunnyside's ownership due to
the complication of parcel boundaries. With this transfer and the permit amendment
AM-004, the requirement to remove the buildings was removed from Sunnyside's MLR
permit. Since title to the buildings and most of the area had passed to the Historical
Society, they leased space to tenants to pay their holding costs and provide low cost
business space as a service to the community to encourage establishment of small
businesses in the area.
Sunnyside received authorization from San Juan County to subdivide the remaining
parcels to consolidate the Historical Society's land position and make it easier for them to
develop and implement their long range plan to establish a business park in the area. The
fractions were deeded to the San Juan County Historical Society in 2000. During 2000,
the Historical Society began construction of a Mining Museum in Silverton as one of
their projects. Material excavated from the site for the foundation was hauled to the
Power House site and stockpiled for later use in development of their Business Park at
the site and Sunnyside removed the topsoil stockpile that had been stored there for usage
during final reclamation. The topsoil was moved to the top of Tailings Pond #4. The area
is now ready for the Historical Society's use to develop a Business Park according to
their plans and the approved post mining land use according to Sunnyside's MLR Permit
Reclamation Plan.
