Public Notice
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, of the Colorado
Revised Statutes, hereby issues notice that on July 19, 2012, a minor revision application (MR -386) to the
West Elk Mine, Permit No. C- 1980 -007, operated by Mountain Coal Company, LLC, P.O. Box 591,
Somerset, CO 81434 was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The Mountain Coal Company,
LLC has submitted a Minor Revision to the West Elk permit. The revision is for the drilling of a
replacement well for the Box Canyon North monitoring well, which was damaged last year by the RPEE
haul road area landslide. The Box Canyon North well was originally permitted in Technical Revision
113. The new well will be drilled adjacent to the old well and will utilize the same pad. The area for this
well is already disturbed so there will be no increase in the mine's disturbed area as a result of this
revision. The Division will review the plans and reclamation cost estimate to determine if any additional
reclamation liability will be required. All reviews and comment periods as provided in the Act and
Regulations promulgated thereunder initiate from this date of filing.
Posted July 19, 2012
3 C -MR -03
8 -CI -1?-
"- A —L c \ – 1 t
