HISTORY
July 27, 2012
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RECEIVED
K- 3032012
Division of Reclamation,
Mining & Safety
Re: Notice of 112d -1 Designated Mining Operations Reclamation Permit Application Consideration Star Mine
Operations, LLC, Revenue Mine, File No. M- 2012 -032 (CHS #62399)
Dear Mr. Oswald:
Thank you for your correspondence dated July 18, 2012 (received by our office on July 20, 2012) regarding the
subject project.
A search of the Colorado Cultural Resource Inventory database indicates that at least one cultural resource
inventory has been conducted within the proposed permit area and that a number of properties related to the
historic mining of this area have been identified including: the Sneffles Townsite (50R79), the Revenue Mine
(501180), the Torpedo - Eclipse Mine (50R831), the Neptune Mine (50R1020), the Protector and Blazer Mine
(50R1108), and site 50R1107 (an unnamed historic mine).
Due to the early recording date of these resources (between 1976 and 1993), our database indicates that
additional data is needed to assess their eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). As such,
we recommend that the operator avoid these sites or that additional inventory be conducted to determine the
effect of the proposed project on these resources. If site avoidance is not possible, we recommend further
consultation with our office in order to identify options to mitigate the adverse effect to the sites.
Should human remains be discovered during mining activities the requirements under State law CRS 24-80 part
13 apply and must be followed.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Mark Tobias,
Section 106 Compliance Manager, at (303) 866 -4674 or mark. tobias@state. co.us.
S' cerely,
Edward C.
