2.04.7 Hydrology Description
The BLM has two federal appropriated instream flow rights on 2.5 miles of
Terror Creek and 1.25 miles of Hubbard Creek. See the following table.
Water Right Summary
Water Right
Spring /Pond Designation
Decree
Date
Owner
Hubbard Creek 1.25 Miles
Instream
0.011 CFS
12/31/1882
BLM
Terror Creek 2.5 Miles
Instream
0.012 CFS
12/31/1882
BLM
There are four unnamed, generally west to east flowing, ephemeral gulches,
and two unnamed generally east to west flowing ephemeral ditches which
are tributary to Terror Creek within the permit and adjacent area. These
gulches are expected to be typically dry with flow occurring during spring
snowmelt and after significant precipitation events.
Stephens Draw is the first drainage located west of the Bowie No. 2 Mine
portals. It is characterized by steep to nearly vertical canyon walls. This
Draw is an intermittent stream with greatest flow to be expected during spring
snowmelt and significant precipitation events. Stockpond P -1 is located in
Stephens Draw in the south central portion of the permit area. Monitoring
performed during 1984 shows this pond had discharge that ranged from 3 to
20 gallons per minute. Flow monitoring for Stephens Draw immediately
below the pond show flows ranging from a seep to 1.58 gpm for the period of
September 1995 through September 1998.
Four unnamed ephemeral drainages are located within the permit area
between Stephens Draw and Hubbard Creek. From west to east they are
named A- Gulch, B- Gulch, C -Gulch and D- Gulch. These gulches would only
be expected to have flow during spring snowmelts and significant
precipitation events. During 1995 and 1996 no discharge was observed from
these drainages.
Stevens Gulch flows through the western edge of the Permit Boundary.
There are two west to east flowing and two east to west flowing ephemeral
drainages which are tributary to Stevens Gulch. These gulches are expected
to be typically dry with flow occurring during spring snowmelt and after
significant precipitation events.
Ll
PR -12 2.04-47- 06/10
