the feeder-breaker. High pressure pumping stations will be located
as close to the monitor sections as is practical or a main pumping •
station may be erected on the surface. Minus 6-inch coal will be
directed from the breaker to tl~e flume line.
The roof control plan involves two areas of interest, namely the
geotechnical characteristics of the footwall, hanging wall, and
coal; and the actual plan for supporting the hanging wall, and, if
necessary, the coal roof (Appendix 4.3-1).
During an intensive drilling program, (a total of 32,000 feet was
drilled in 24 drill holes) twc outside consulting firms were
contracted to investigate the coal and rock characteristics to be
encountered during our mining operation. The first was Seegmiller
International Mining Geotechnic:al Consultants which addressed the
strength characteristics of the coal and rock groups present, along
with questions concerning ground control conditions. Their report
shows moderate to high rock strengths, moderate coal strengths, and
acceptable ground control conditions. The other consultant was
Core Laboratories, Inc., which examined each drill hole for the
chemical characteristics of the coal and rock groups present. This
information showed favorable chemical analysis of the coal and rock
strata (Appendix 3.3-1).
The actual roof control plan i~as been prepared for submittal to
MSHA. The Seegmiller report indicates that roof support will not
be difficult. The plan will be in accordance and comply with MSHA
regulations and Colorado Division of Mines standards.
Retreat shall be from the crown pillar or panel above, to the panel
below, operating in several sub-levels simultaneously and in
echelon, maintaining a uniform caving line. where the two Wheeler
seams spilt, the Upper wheeler would proceed slightly ahead of the
Lower Wheeler to prevent premature pressures appearing ahead of the
working face in the Lower Wheeler.
