Pineda <br />Director <br />Re: West Elk Mine (Permit No. C- 1980 -007) <br />Revision: MR -386 <br />Minor Revision No. MR -386 New well next to existing damaged Box Canyon North (B- <br />Seam) water monitoring well <br />Dear Sir or Madam: <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has received a revision for the West Elk Mine. <br />The revision was called complete on July 19, 2012. The decision due date is July 29, 2012. <br />The Mountain Coal Company, LLC has submitted a Minor Revision to the West Elk permit. The <br />revision is for the drilling of a replacement well for the Box Canyon North monitoring well, which <br />was damaged last year by the RPEE haul road area landslide. The Box Canyon North well was <br />originally permitted in Technical Revision 113. The new well will be drilled adjacent to the old <br />well and will utilize the same pad. The area for this well is already disturbed so there will be no <br />increase in the mine's disturbed area as a result of this revision. The Division will review the plans <br />and reclamation cost estimate to determine if any additional reclamation liability will be required. <br />This revision is available for review at the Gunnison County Planning Department, 201 E.
