a
November 1997 Monthly Report
Page 2
the site and is in agreement that reclamation was completed
according to the Consent Decree work plan and MLR standards.
- Gold Prince - Mill Tailings
This project was completed in September, 1997. DMG inspected
this site and agrees that reclamation was completed
according to the amended Consent Decree work plan and MLR
standards.
- Ransom Tunnel
This project was completed in July, 1997 . DMG has inspected
the site and is in agreement that reclamation was completed
according to the Consent Decree work plan and MLR standards.
- Longfellow - Koehler Mine Waste Project
This project was completed in October 1997 . DMG is in
agreement that this project has been completed according to
the Consent Decree work plan and MLR standards.
After reviewing the October monthly report, it was noticed
that the site activity report did not mention that the Koehler
Tunnel was entered in October to determine if the potential
existed for segregation of flows to improve water quality.
Previously air quality was poor enough to bar safe entry but
in October enough improvement occurred (probably a result of
weather changes) to allow entry beyond the previous 300 feet
limit. At 700 feet, a cave-in was found that was
approximately five feet deep and twenty feet long. Entry
beyond this point was not made because of deteriorating air
quality and ponded water although another cave-in could be
seen approximately another 100 feet in. This cave-in extended
to the tunnel back barring further entry without establishing
ventilation and mucking through the cave and providing ground
support. The nature or location of the water flows was not
found. There is an additional 1700 feet of cross-cut and
the 260 feet of Carbon Lake lateral (which contains the mine
workings and surface connection) behind the cave-ins. In
this distance additional caves could be expected. Further
work to gain entry is not anticipated due to the potential
magnitude of this project with no real indication that
further effort could result in water quality improvements.
London Mine Portals - Waste Dumps
This is a "B List" project. Therefore, no work, permitting or
arrangement for access is planned until it becomes evident
