April 1998 Monthly Report
Page 2
"B List" Projects
- Columbus Mine Portals -Mine Waste Dumps
- London Mine Portals - Waste Dumps
Work, permitting or arrangement for access is not planned until it
becomes evident that the work plans for these projects require
implementation.
- Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active
continuously throughout April. The entire flow of Cement Creek
was diverted for treatment. The flow in April ranged from 229
G. P.M. to 736 G. P.M.
Attached are April 1998, monitoring results for; dissolved
metals in the AT-004 discharge; Cement Creek diverted for
treatment (CC-1B) ; American Tunnel flow before treatment (AT-
INFEL) ; and Cement Creek below the AT-004 discharge point (CC-
20) .
- Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream
Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) on April 8, 1998
along with the three mainstem gaging stations (A68, M34 and
C48) . These April sampling results are attached.
The provisional flow at A-72 was 86 cfs which places this
sample result in the low flow category (Q<100 cfs) . The
dissolved zinc value obtained by averaging the results from
two labs was 880 ug/l . Since this result gives an index
number greater than +2 (+2 . 91) , each lab re-analized the
sample as required in the Consent Decree. The average result
from these four analyses is 858 ug/1 which is the reported
value for April 1998.
The index number for the April sample is calculated as follows:
Xi= 858
Xc= 519
Sf= 124
Ni= (Xi - Xf)/Sf
Ni= (858 - 519)/124
Ni= +2 .73
