May 1998 Monthly Report
Page 2
- Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation - Alkaline Solution Injection
This project was not active in May 1998. The water pool pH, at the
American Tunnel bulkhead, on May 22, 1998 was 3. 11 and the bulkhead
pressure was 336 psi.
Sunnyside will continue to monitor these parameters.
"B List" Projects
Columbus Mine Portals -Mine Waste Dumps
London Mine Portals - Waste Dumps
Work, permitting or arrangement for access is not planned until it
becomes evident that the work plans for these projects require
implementation.
- Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active
continuously throughout May. The flow of Cement Creek
increased during May to levels that required control on the
water treatment system inlet quantity due to snow-melt. The
flow diverted and treated in May ranged from 1118 G. P.M. to
1208 G. P.M.
Attached are May 1998, monitoring results for; dissolved
metals in the AT-004 discharge; Cement Creek diverted for
treatment (CC-1B) ; American Tunnel flow before treatment (AT-
INFEL) ; and Cement Creek below the AT-004 discharge point (CC-
20) .
- Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream
Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) on May 7, 1998
and the Bureau of Reclamation sampled the three mainstem
gaging stations (A68, M34 and C48) . The sample results for
Sunnyside' s A-72 reference point sample are attached.
The provisional flow at A-72 was 284 cfs which places this
sample result in the intermediate flow category (100 cfs
<Q< 300 cfs) . The dissolved zinc value for this sample
obtained by averaging the results from two labs was 553 ug/l.
