File No. C05000-0375
3rd Quarter 1997 Report
Page 2
American Tunnel Bulkhead
The American Tunnel bulkhead was inspected, gage pressure readings taken, and fluid samples
analyzed for pH, conductivity, and temperature more frequently than the requirements of Items 3.
and 4. in the Rule Authorization letter. This information is attached along with a water quality
sample analysis summary sheet for the water behind the American Tunnel bulkhead.
The valve on the American Tunnel bulkhead drain pipe has remained closed since closure on
September 9, 1996.
Site inspections have not revealed any indication that the bulkhead is performing other than as
designed.
Inieation Ouantities
Alkaline injection was active intermittently from project startup for the 1997 construction season
on July 14, 1997 through September 30,1997. During this period, a total of 241.5 tons of
hydrated lime was placed underground through the injection site in Sunnyside Basin. Intermittent
injection was used in order to allow mixing and distribution time within the mine workings
between injection episodes.
The total quantity of water and hydrated lime placed underground during this period was 5.3 MG.
Attached is a table of daily water volumes placed into the mine pool through the injection site.
Please contact me if you have any questions on this report.
Sincerely,
Larry Perino
Reclamation Manager
cc: Sarah Johnson, CDPHE
Wally Erickson, DMG
