Final Inspection 2 November 11 , 1997
Gold Prince Mill Tailings MRP DMG Permit No. M-77-378
Consent Decree
Portions of waste rock stockpile affected by SGC operations had been contoured to
stable configuration which blended with natural slopes and maintained historic flavor.
Evidence of SGC operations impacting historic structures was not observed.
Two bulkheads were poured in the single portal. DMG previously conducted bulkhead
pre-pour inspection of the interior bulkhead on 9/23/96. Second bulkhead was poured
approximately 20' from portal mouth, to contain surface drainage from the near surface
fracture zone. Rather than backfilling and grading the portal, SGC reconstructed a false
portal shed from 8"x 8" and 2"x 12" timbers, to maintain historic flavor of site. False
portal shed had been constructed to provide visual suggestion of portal but did not allow
access into portal. Discharge from near surface fractured rock at portal shed was visually
estimated at 3 gpm. Discharge appeared clear, no iron staining observed.
Upland drainage and drainage from near surface fractured rock was routed around
affected area. Drainage from affected area was treated for sediment by silt fence and
straw bails. Areas affected by SGC operations were covered by hay mulch, evidence of
seeding observed. Reclaimed areas appeared stable, no evidence of slumping, sliding,
erosion, or instability observed.
Backfilling, grading and relocation of tailings and waste rock materials from drainage
channels appeared to have been completed in accordance with conditions of the Consent
Decree and in accordance with the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Act and the Hard
Rock/Metal Mining Rules and Regulation of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board.
(end of report)
cc: Allen Sorenson, DMG
Sarah Johnson, CDPHE WQCD
John Davis, BLM
