The Eureka Tailings area is <br /> located at the confluence of Eureka Creek and Animas River, in portions of the SE 1/4 of <br /> Section 19, T42N, R6W-,/NMPM, San Juan County. <br /> Inspection Date: v 8/5/97 Inspection occurred from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm. <br /> SGC Representative: Larry Perino <br /> DMG Inspector: Wally Erickson <br /> Field Conditions: Overcast and warm, intermittent rain. <br /> Observations: Reclamation backfilling and grading appeared to have been completed in <br /> accordance with conditions of the Consent Decree and in accordance with the Colorado <br /> Mined Land Reclamation Act and the Hard Rock/Metal Mining Rules and Regulations of <br /> the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board. Pre-law tailings from the Eureka Mill site <br /> had been relocated to Mayflower Pond 4. Pockets of additional tailings, not originally <br /> identified within the Consent Decree, were discovered and relocated to Mayflower Pond <br /> 4. Relocated materials were neutralized with high pH material at Pond 4. Limestone <br /> materials were also incorporated into excavated areas at Eureka during backfilling and <br /> grading of affected areas. Affected areas at Eureka were seeded and mulched. <br /> Approximately 60 tree seedlings and 60 shrubs were transplanted. Spruce and limber <br /> pine seedlings and various deciduous shrubs were evident. Metal debris and discarded <br /> equipment were removed from the Eureka site. Seeding, mulch, and tree and shrub <br /> transplants were not required by the Consent Decree.
