The
Division conducted vegetation sampling August 1 -3 to document the status of the revegetation efforts. OSM
representatives Elizabeth Shaeffer, and Dianne Osborne assisted the Division with vegetation sampling, as well as
collecting Remote Sensing data. Also assisting in vegetation data collection were Sandy Brown, Brock Bowles
and Jason Musick of DRMS.
The mine area has been extremely dry this summer. Heavy afternoon thunderstorms had occurred in the region
August 2 and 3rd. There are no rain gauges on site.
The GEC mine is a revoked surface mine. Portions of the mine were reclaimed by GEC Mining, and other
portions of the mine were reclaimed by the DRMS- Abandoned Mine Lands Program. The permit was revoked in
1987. Reclamation was conducted by the Division in 1993 and 1994. All reclamation bond monies have been
exhausted on reclamation projects on the mine site.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7,
4.05.10, Diversions 4.05.4; 4.05.13; Drainage — Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9,
Two ponds remain on site. Runoff flows
across the sediment and exits at the emergency spillway. Vegetative cover on the pond consists of predominately
annual species.
No operator or permittee remain responsible for maintaining the property, and the Division retains no monies for
maintenance of the site.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 2 of 7
