Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34,
Article 33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on July 11, 2012, an
application to renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Roadside Portals
Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as
provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of
filing.
Snowcap Coal Company, Inc. proposes to continue underground coal mining and reclamation
operations on land located approximately 5 miles north of Palisade, Colorado. Coal extraction
operations have ceased and mine portals have been sealed. Continuing activity includes
reclamation, monitoring, and maintenance within various portions of the permit area. The permit
area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 26, 27, 28, 34, and 35, T10S, R98W, 6th PM; Portions of Sections 1, 2, 11,
12, and 13, T11S, R98W, 6th PM; Portions of Section 7, T11S, R97W, 6th PM; all in Mesa
County.
The above - mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Cameo
and Palisade.
This application would allow for renewal of a valid existing permit for the Roadside North and
South Portals Mine, coal mining and reclamation Permit No. C- 1981 -041. The permit renewal
application would not incorporate additional lands into the permit area, and does not propose
additional surface disturbance, nor does it alter previously approved permit conditions or
mitigation measures.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
