July 3, 2011
Mr. Jared Ebert
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Ebert:
TRAPPER MINING INC.
RE: Trapper Mining Inc., Permit C -81 -010
Second Quarter 2012 Sediment Pond Inspections
Impoundment Inspection results for the second quarter of 2012 are enclosed. All impoundment
inspections were conducted by a qualified impoundment inspector. Inspections took place on June 12 —
June 14, June 18 and June 19.
Maintenance items noted during the inspections were as follows:
1. No Name #5 needs to be cleaned.
2. Johnson #7R needs to be cleaned.
3. Johnson #8 needs to be cleaned
4. Johnson #10 needs to be cleaned.
5. West Pyeatt #1 needs to be cleaned and a sediment marker installed after it is cleaned.
6. Oak #1 needs to be cleaned and a sediment marker installed after it is cleaned.
Trapper will address these maintenance items in a timely manner.
Data related to pond capacity is attached. The last column on the table provides an estimate of the
remaining capacity in each pond where remaining capacity is defined as the volume remaining after
considering the estimated amount of sediment noted during the inspections.
In your response to the first quarter 2012 sediment pond inspections, dated May 24, 2012, you asked that
two issues be addressed. The first issue was to address the discrepancy for the percentage of sediment
in Coyote Pond. On July 29, 2011 Mr. Robert Zuber inquired about the same issue. I responded to his
letter explaining the discrepancy on August 5, 2011. He replied with a suggestion in a letter on August 8,
2011. I have attached a copy of all three letters for you to review. The contractor who conducted the
Coyote inspection was not informed of reporting the sediment as Mr. Zuber had advised. This inspector
will be advised of this matter.
The second issue addresses the accuracy of the sediment levels for the first quarter inspection. Trapper
has been using the same contractor, for several years, to conduct the first quarter inspections. Should
snow or ice cover the ponds, it is difficult for him to estimate the sediment level, so he lists the sediment
percentage as minimal. For future inspections, this contractor will be advised to list the weather
conditions that may hinder his sediment estimates.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
.... p,RIE p ; c1'
F• .
O'
:° 43864 t. c :
moo: /3/)
'*
N/I /lilt f 111111\ \ \ \\
Sincerely,
=
Tonia arie Perkins
CO PE 43864
C F Luke /EQ file 118 7
P.O.
