Dry Creek March -April 3.04 mg /l
" May - February 1.11 mg /l
Lower Sage Creek year round 1.00 mg /1
Upper Sage Creek year round 1.25 mg /l
The break between Upper and Lower Sage Creek is the west border of
Section 18, T5N, R87W. SCC's outfalls for the Seneca II -W Mine discharge
into Lower Sage Creek. SCC's outfalls for the Yoast Mine discharge into
Upper Sage Creek. The exceedances for TR iron noted at the NPDES sites
in May in this AHR would be above the new approved standards. This is
due to the fact that the snowmelt season extended into May this year due
to near record snowpack.
Four samples from NPDESI7 exceeded the aquatic life chronic selenium
standard, 4.6 ug /1, with values of 10, 7. 6, 8 and 6 ug /l. The acute
standard, 18.4 ug /l, was not exceeded. One sample from NPDES6 exceeded
the chronic selenium standard with a value of 4.8 ug /l. See the
following NPDES Effluent section for a discussion of these excursions.
The sulfide data presented in Appendix E are the total of both the
ionized (S -) and un- ionized (HzS) forms of hydrogen sulfide. The un-
ionized form is the potentially toxic form, and is what the CDPHE water
quality standard is based upon. A procedure for calculating the un-
ionized form may be found on the website:
http: / /www.mullalyengineering .com.au /imaqes /product /file /Problem of Hvdr
o en Sulphide in Sewers. df page 5, Table 1. No excursions of the 0.002
mg /l un- ionized sulfide standard occurred this year.
The aquatic life ammonia standard is dependent on pH and temperature.
The detection limit for ammonia is 0.05 mg /l. All values above detection
limit are compared to table standards found on this website, page 87:
http: / /www.epa.gov /waterscience /criteria /ammonia /99update.pdf
No ammonia excursions occurred this year.
One mercury value this year was above the detection limit, 0.2 ug /l.
Sage Creek stream site WSSF3 had a value of 1.6 ug /l in April.
