West Elk Mine 2011 Annual Hydrology Report 24
3.1.5.2.3 MCSG -3 Temperature Data Logger
The MCSG -3 temperature data logger monitoring site is located on the main stem
of Sylvester Gulch, 33 feet upstream from its confluence with the unnamed tributary
(Figure 8).
3.1.5.2.4 MCSG -4 Temperature Data Logger
The MCSG -4 temperature data logger monitoring site is located in Sylvester
Gulch, approximately 150 feet downstream of its confluence with the unnamed tributary
(Figure 8).
3.1.5.2.5 MCSG -5 Temperature Data Logger
The MCSG -5 temperature data logger monitoring site is located in Sylvester
Gulch, approximately 500 feet upstream of its confluence with the North Fork of the
Gunnison River (Figure 8).
3.2 Spring and Seep Monitoring Program
Currently, there are 36 springs and seeps in the MCC hydrologic monitoring
program (Table 5). This number does not include spring E14 -1 which was abandoned in
2006 when it was covered by drill -pad construction activities. The spring and seep
monitoring plan is divided into four general hydrologic categories for discussion
purposes:
• Springs and seeps in the North Fork drainage basin issuing from the strata
above the F -coal seam.
• Springs and seeps in the North Fork drainage basin issuing from strata in or
below the F -coal seam.
• Springs and seeps in the Jumbo Mountain area in the North Fork drainage
issuing from strata above the B -coal seam.
• Springs and seeps in the Dry Fork drainage issuing from strata above the E-
coal seam.
The locations of the spring and seep monitoring stations are shown on Map 2.
The following discussion of monitored springs is presented according to the general
hydrologic categories described above and is presented from upstream to downstream
relative to the mining area. A summary of the spring and seep monitoring program
details is presented in Table 5.
June 2012 HydroGeo, Inc.
