This installation would replace
the existing temporary waste storage area, and provide for more efficient segregation and handling of mixed
solid waste materials coming out of the mine.
Construction of the Portal Waste Transfer Station will involve minor excavation, placement and compaction of
fill materials, and forming and pouring of reinforced concrete pads and back/wing walls. As an existing
disturbed area, the proposed installation will not result in any new disturbance, and will not require or result in
any changes to existing drainage and sediment controls. Operation of the Portal Waste Transfer Station will
involve sorting of mixed solid waste materials coming out of the mine, and selective placement of the different
types of waste materials in labeled steel roll -off containers. Recycling or waste disposal contractors will
periodically pick -up the filled containers for transport off -site for recycling or disposal, and replace them with
empty containers. TC may also place a trash compactor in this area, to reduce the volume of cardboard, paper,
and other similar waste materials. The compactor would be powered by a drop -line from one of the existing
transformers or distribution lines which already exist.
This submittal includes revised PAP text and maps /drawings addressing the proposed Portal Waste Transfer
Station. New and revised PAP materials are identified by the enclosed Summary of Revisions /Additions. TCC
would like to proceed with this project as soon as possible, therefore, we appreciate your consideration and
cooperation in facilitating timely review and approval. Once you have had opportunity to review the
accompanying information, please feel free to contact me with any questions or to discuss related matters.
