April 1997 Monthly Report
Page 2
- Surface Mill Tailings at Eureka
No work was done on this project in April due to snow-cover.
The determination on whether additional work is required will
be made after snow clears and an inspection can be made in the
spring.
- Gold Prince - Mill Tailings
No work was done on this project in April due to snow-cover
and loss of access for the winter.
Implementation of the amended work plan is planned for the
1997 construction season and will begin with completion of the
portal bulkhead. The interior bulkhead was completed in 1996.
- Ransom Tunnel
Implementation of the work plan for this project was started
in April. The portal was opened, caved portal timber sets
replaced and standing timber sets reinforced. By month end,
ventilation was being placed and drift rehabilitated for
access and inspection to select potential bulkhead sites.
Planned work for May includes bulkhead site selection,
bulkhead design, coffer dam construction, pipe placement and
form construction.
Longfellow - Koehler Mine Waste Project
During the month of April, no on-site remediation work was
done due to snow-cover and completion of the projects that
access was maintained to in March. No samples were taken in
March although the site was inspected periodically for
indications that site flows might be increasing. There were
no changes noted in April .
Grading of Koehler dump material and pond sediment placed on
the Mayflower Mill - Tailings Pond 14 during the winter was
started in April. Through the winter 374.6 tons of alkaline
material had been purchased for mixing with the dump and pond
sediment material. This would make a ratio of 85:1. Bench
testing showed a requirement of 142 : 1. This material was
mixed with the waste material during stockpiling and during
grading.
Planned activity for May includes monitoring the site for
spring flows and sampling the site.
