January 1997 Monthly Report
Page 4
- Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream
Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) on January 8,
1997. The BOR was scheduled to sample the other three
mainstem stream monitoring sites A-68, C-48 and M-34.
The measured flow (USGS) at A-72 for the January 8, 1997
sample was 55. 5 cfs which is in the low flow category (Q < 100
cfs) . The reported dissolved zinc value was 695 ug/1 which is
the average of results from two labs.
Index numbers for this result is calculated as follows:
Xi = 695
Xf = 519
Sf = 124
Ni = (Xi-Xf)/Sf
Ni = (695-519)/124
Ni = 1 .42
The index number graph and updated reporting table are attached.
Evaluation of the normalized data:
The index value of 1.42 for January indicates this result was
significantly higher than the mean value for the reference data for
the low flow class. While this result is less than 2 and does not
require reanalysis, further evaluation or additional sampling, it
is of concern that two consecutive low flow samples are in the
upper range that could be expected as compared to the reference
data set. If this trend continues, it may require evaluation.
Please contact me if you have any questions on this report.
Sincerely,
Larry Perino
Reclamation Manager
cc: EPA - Melanie Pallman
Technical Enforcement Program 8ENS-T
DMG - Wally Erickson
Allen Sorenson
