Description of Mining Activities <br /> Physical Description of Conditions <br /> An old tailings pond, pre-Reclamation-Act, is exposed to rainwater, stormwater and <br /> groundwater springs under and near the tailings. Exposure of these materials to water should be <br /> controlled. There is a total measured estimate of 64,000 cubic yards. <br /> General Description of the Mining Site <br /> The historic, pre-reclamation law, tailings are located at Howardsville, San Juan County, <br /> Colorado. The site is accessed by taking Colorado Highway 110 north of Silverton. The tailings <br /> were placed here in the late 1950's and 1960's. The total disturbed area is approximately 3.9 <br /> acres. <br /> Identification of Lands <br /> Historic pre-reclamation law tailings at the old townsite of Howardsville, San Juan <br /> County, Colorado. See attached location and site maps. <br /> Identification of the Waters of the United States Potentially Affected <br /> Cunningham Creek and Animas River at and above confluence. Stormwater Management Controls <br /> Sediments traps will be created as needed below the project to prevent tailings from being <br /> washed into the Animas River or Cunningham Creek.
