GOIORADO
HISTORICAL
SOCIETY 4 - 1 77 3 7?
The Colorado History Museum 1300 Broadway Denver,Colorado 80203-2137
L/Ugust 20, 1996
Larry Perino
)Reclamation Manager
Sunnyside Gold Corporation
P.O. Box 177
Silverton, Colorado 81433
Re: Gold Prince Mill Tailings & Waste Dump Remediation Project
Dear Mr. Perino:
a'
This office has reviewed the cultural resource report and your
correspondence of August 9, 1996 concerning the above proposed
project.
We concur that 5SA37, the Gold Prince Mine, is eligible to the
National Register of Historic Places under criteria A and D. We
also concur that the tailings piles are non-contributing since they
appear to date from the 1950's. We find that the removal of the
tailings piles will not affect the qualities that make this site
significant provided none of the structures including feature 2 or
trash deposits, such as feature 17, are impacted by remediation
activities.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this project. If we
may be of further assistance please contact Jim Green at (303) 866-
4674.
Sincerely,
James E. Hartmann
State Historic Preservation Officer
JEH/WJG
