Colorado 81434 USA Tel (970)929 -5122 Fax <br />(970)929 -51'77 <br />June 29, 2012 <br />Fire Mitigation 'Plan Measures for Stage it Fire restrictions <br />The fallowing are fire mitigation measures for Ere mitigation plans during stage II fire restrictions. These <br />apply to but are not limited to road construction and maintenance, drilling, welding, other work performed <br />by contractors/permittees and/or subcontractor(s). <br />1. All field personnel will carry an adequate radio or cell phone along with emergency contact numbers <br />and information, including 911 and Montrose Fire Dispatch 970 - 249 - 1010. All fires will be reported <br />to 911 and Montrose Fire Dispatch immediately at 970 - 249 - 1010. <br />2. Vehicles and equipment shall not block access roads. <br />3. Operators will inform the FS of the location and duration (start date, end date, work hours) of active <br />work sites. Contact the local FS office (527 -4131) with this information at least 24 hours before <br />commencing activities. After hours, contact Montrose Fire Dispatch 970 -249 -1010. It is not <br />necessary to inform FS of routine maintenance visits that do not pose a fire hazard. <br />4. When using machinery that may cause ignition (e.g., welding, pipefitting, metal grinding, rock <br />striking, explosives, etc.) or operating an acetylene or other torch with open flame: <br />• 20 lb. fire extinguisher is present at all times. <br />• A ten (10) foot diameter area is cleared of all surface vegetation, scraped to bare mineral soil, <br />prior to welding or grinding. <br />+ Cut vegetation is scattered well outside the cleared area, not piled <br />+ Five gallons of water is available on site. <br />• The site is monitored for one hour following cessation of welding operations. <br />• Operations will be suspended if winds carry sparks beyond the cleared area. <br />5. Every vehicle or equipment containing an internal combustion engine shall be equipped with a 2.5 <br />pound (or larger) class ABC chemical fire extinguisher. <br />d. Every passenger vehicle will be equipped with a 2.5 pound (or larger) class ABC chemical fire <br />extinguisher and one shovel. Smoking is limited to inside vehicles only. <br />The operator will assure that all workers are aware of fire prevention and safety procedures; <br />evacuation routes and procedures; the designated safe meeting place; and emergency shutdown <br />procedures.
