We had great weather and great country to be
hiking around in. Attached is a copy of the Division's SL -04 inspection report for the West Elk Mine. The Division
sends courtesy copies of this report to all interested parties and inspection attendees. As we discussed at the pre -
inspection meeting and in the field, the inspection is only one part of the process. The Division will now conduct a review
of the vegetation monitoring data and soil loss analysis provided by West Elk in the SL -04 application. If the Division
has any questions with these materials, they will send an adequacy review letter to West Elk containing those questions.
Once any and all issues have been adequately addressed, the Division will prepare a written findings document, propose a
decision, notify all affected parties of the proposed decision in writing and publish that decision in the local newspaper
(the Delta County Independent).
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments regarding the inspection, the inspection report, the bond
release process or anything else. Thanks and have a great day.
James R Stark
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
(303)866 -3567 X8145
www.mining.state.co.us
