provided in the PR -02 package (volume 14) on page 2.04.7 -2. Water level
measurements obtained in non - flowing wells are taken with water level
indicator, or in the case of a few shallow alluvial wells, directly from
a steel tape. Pressure readings (in psi) obtained from flowing wells
with pressure gages are multiplied by 2.31 to obtain head in feet. For
the sake of brevity, the prefix that precedes all well names will be
dropped throughout this report (except in the case of nested wells with
a similar number). As an example, Well SCAL46 may be referred to as Well
46.
Ground Water Level Summary. This year, water levels at all wells fell
within their historic ranges, with the following exceptions. Fish Creek
alluvial well 72 displayed its highest water level in May 2011; however,
this well is new to SCC's monitoring program; only six measurements have
been made so far. Bond Creek alluvial well 68 also displayed its highest
water level ever in May 2011.
All alluvial wells are showing distinct seasonal water level
fluctuations in response to periods of precipitation recharge or the
lack of precipitation. Overburden and coal well water levels are
fluctuating in response to the precipitation recharge and ground water
flow from the reclaimed mine pits.
Ground Water Quality. Ground water samples were collected from two wells
on a biannual basis. The parameter lists used for all wells sampled this
year are given on Tables 4 and 4A. Analyses have been performed by ACZ
Laboratory in Steamboat Springs, Colorado since May 31, 1983. ACZ
Laboratory performs all analyses by EPA or equivalent methods. Samples
are delivered the day of collection to the lab in an iced cooler. The
old ground water monitoring program is presented on pages 7- 341/342 of
the Seneca II PAP. The new program is provided in the PR -02 package
(volume 14) on page 2.04.7 -2.
The following discussion of the analytical data collected during the
reporting period is arranged by strata being monitored and coincides
with the format (by aquifer type) in which the analytical data are
3
