18. Surface Drainage Control Structures
Surface drainage will be controlled by a system of collection and diversion ditches as well as
sediment ponds. The detail designs for all of these structures, as well as the surface water data
used to design them can be found in Exhibit G.
19. Sneffels Creek Intake
SMO has water rights in Sneffels Creek which are shown in Appendix 2. SMO will use these
water rights through an intake structure placed in Sneffels Creek immediately upstream of the
Atlas tailings /waste pile. Up to 1000 gallons per minute may be diverted from Sneffels Creek to
a 12" HPDE pipe which will deliver the water to Mine Water Pond #3, where it will mix with the
mine water in order to encourage precipitation of zinc and other ions in the pond. Also, a pump
will be placed in the pond where water may be drawn off for use in the underground mill.
20. Temporary Closure
In the event that market conditions or other circumstances require a temporary shutdown of mine
operations, Star Mine Operations will provide notice to DRMS in accordance with Section 1.13.5
of the Colorado Hard Rock/Metal Mining Rules and Regulations. During non - operating periods,
Star Mine Operations will maintain the buildings, drainage structures, ponds, roads, and other
surface facilities in a safe and environmentally acceptable condition. Underground openings,
gates, and buildings will be locked to discourage unauthorized access when mine personnel are
not present.
Revenue Mine August 2012 D -
