Samples for independent laboratory verification of zinc and sulfate concentrations were <br />collected from CRMW 3C and CRMW 3B monitoring and compliance wells. Water samples from CRMW 3B <br />were collected from the pump back discharge where it discharges into the Arequa Gulch pump back concrete <br />vault. Occasional past sampling results have exceeded the numeric protection level (NPL) of 1,070 mg/1 for <br />sulfate at CRMW. It should be noted that sulfate was selected as a parameter having the potential to predict the <br />presence of acid mine drainage (AMD) and the NPL for Arequa Gulch was based on five quarters of monitoring <br />data well before the VLF expanded to its current footprint. At the request of the Division, CC &V installed a <br />pump -back system to reduce the potential of groundwater flows with high sulfate concentrations to migrate <br />down Arequa Gulch.
