2.05.6(6) <br />during precipitation events. This moisture added to the near <br />surface soils has the potential to reactive old landslides or <br />active new slides in the already relatively unstable steep slopes <br />in the area. <br />The gradual surface movement caused by the planned mining would <br />result in the quick re- establishment of the tensile ground strain. <br />The temporary effects caused by tension cracks at the surface <br />should rapidly diminish as bank sluffing and the advance of natural <br />revegetation healed the cracks. No tension cracks should develop <br />near the toe buttress of any of the old landslides identified in <br />the RMG report because the toes of the old landslides are located <br />below where any tension cracks would be expected to occur. <br />There are no long -term impacts expected by subsidence in this area. <br />Obviously, the north facing slopes in the area are at present <br />unstable and the potential for mass movements are probable in the <br />area with or without the temporary effects caused by subsidence. <br />However, any probable catastrophic mass movements in the area are <br />unlikely. <br />• Protection of Springs and Lone Pine Gulch <br />• <br />A Subsidence Prediction, Sections Map (Map 15) has been prepared to <br />determine the extent to which the mine may impact the renewable <br />resources in Lone Pine Gulch. Springs G -26A, CR -12 and Lone Pine <br />Gulch are the only renewable resources adjacent to the proposed <br />mine workings. The sections presented on Map 15 show, based on a <br />25 degree angle of draw, that the mine should not impact either <br />springs G -26A, CR -12 or Lone Pine Gulch. However, to provide a <br />greater level of comfort with the subsidence projection, mining <br />recovery in the areas located near springs G -26A, CR -12 and Lone <br />Pine Gulch will be limited to 50 %. The areas of limited extraction <br />are presented on the B -Seam Mine Plan (Map 9A). <br />Section 2.04.7(1)(b) presents an analysis of the recharge source <br />for the springs in Lone Pile Gulch. The north facing slope and the <br />alluvial material in the gulch are the most likely source of <br />recharge for the springs. The Subsidence Prediction, Sections Map <br />(Map 15) shows the mine is designed to protect Lone Pine Gulch. <br />Furthermore, the north facing slope is not within the area of <br />2.05 -62 Rev. 04 -20 -94 <br />
