INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: JIM STARK AND ZACH TRUJILLO
CC: DAN HERNANDEZ
FROM: ROB ZUBER R p (7
i
SUBJECT: DESERADO MR-152, ADEQUACY REVIEW - SEDCAD MODELING OF PONDS
DATE: 6/26/2012
Jim -
I have reviewed the SEDCAD modeling of the ponds related to the B -Seam dewatering system (Illustration 55), as well
as related materials, namely Table V -2 and Map 157. I recommend that the following items be included in your
adequacy letter to Blue Mountain Energy.
Also, Zach, during your inspections I recommend that you monitor the flow into the system in some way. The flow
should be less than or equal to 100 gpm per the system specifications in Illustration 55.
Thanks,
Rob
• On Map 157 the elevations for Section C-C are in error. Please revise this.
• On Map 157 the topography is missing, making it appear that the emergency spillway at the Last Chance Pond
is lower than the primary spillway. Also, there is no detail on the emergency spillway. Please revise the map to
include these items.
• There are no details on B -Seam Dewatering Ponds 1, 2, 3, or 4. Per Table V-2, these should be added.
• It appears that the crest length of the spillway at B -Seam Dewatering Pond 4 should be wider than the 6 feet
listed in the SEDCAD model inputs. Per the model output, a 6 -foot crest will not be long enough to contain
the 10 -year event, and certainly not long enough to contain the 25 -year event.
