I thought it might help if you could review the
chronology in writing.
During the 1920's the American Tunnel was driven 5000 feet into the flank
of Bonita Peak in order to access claims which are part of what is now the
Gold King Property. During that tunnel driving episode the American
Tunnel was terminated at a point approximately 3000 feet short of what is
now the Sunnyside /Gold King property line.
During 1959, Standard Metals Corporation reopened the Sunnyside Mine after
approximately 20 years of inactivity. During 1959 and 1960, Standard
Metals extended the American Tunnel approximately 3000 feet to gain access
to the Sunnyside Property, then another 2000 feet to connect with the main
workings of the Sunnyside Mine.
A letter dated February 3, 1961 states that during January of 1961 (after
the American Tunnel had intersected some fractures under the old workings)
"the water was 97 feet below F level and falling 3k feet per day ". I
think we can assume that this observation was made of falling water in the
Washington Inclined Shaft.
If you have any questions, please call at 866 -4929, ext. 322.
C: \WP51 \SGCHOLM.MEM
