This report is also
attached for comparison of American Tunnel water test results (100%
concentration) with the various concentrations of NaBr in 100%
American Tunnel water .
It appears that addition of NaBr slightly reduces the lethality
effects of the water on Ceriodaphnia but increases the reproductive
effects. The results were consistent with the literature values
for reproductive and lethal effects for Ceriodaphnia. No toxicity
effect was observed on Fathead Minnows at the tested concentrations
which is also consistent with literature values.
It will take additional tests with dilutions to pinpoint the
concentration of NaBr where the American Tunnel would pass the
reproductive part of the WET test at the IWC of 10. 3% although it
appears to be in the 1 ppm range. Whether this additional testing
is justified will in part depend on your response to my September
14, 1994 letter request for an official position by CDPHE on the
use of the tracer .
Please contact me if you have any questions or wish to discuss any
of the above.
Sincerely,
Larry Perino
Superintendent-Technical Services
cc: Allen Sorenson DMG w/enclosures
Chris Hayes w/enclosures
Bill Robb w/enclosures
