A request for bond release was received by the Division on
January 23, 2012. Jen Hunt of Peabody Sage Creek represented the operator. The weather was clear
and mild and ground conditions were dry.
This project was originally permitted by P & M Coal Mining Company as the Fish Creek Project. The
project consisted of alluvial wells and bedrock wells in an area of what is now the Eastern Mining District of
the Foidel Creek Mine operated by Twentymile Coal Company ( #C- 1982 -056). Liability now rests with
Peabody due to acquisition of surface and /or mineral rights to these lands by Twentymile and the
subsequent acquisition of Twentymile by Peabody Coal Company.
Nothing was observed on the ground during the inspection but all areas were not searched closely. Review
of remote sensing imagery did not reveal anything that could be indicative of the activities performed under
the N01. The written bond release request indicates that some identifiable wells were found and
abandoned in 2010. In addition, the Final Reclamation Report filed in 1988 indicates that well permits
132280 - 132288 existed at one time for hydrologic monitoring.
The Division requests that Peabody indicate what wells were found and abandoned in 2010 and also file
the necessary abandonment reports for the same. Some documentation of the disposition or current status
of the permitted water monitoring wells is also required. Based on that information, the Division will
determine if additional field inspection is required.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 2 of 3
