HARLAN & ASSOCIATES, INC.
. CONSULTING HYDROGEOLOGISTS AND ENGINEERS
3900 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Suite 155
Lakewood,Colorado 80235-2205
(303)988-7270 • Fax(303)989-8188
June 3, 1996
Mr. Steven Renner
Project Manager
Department of Natural Resources
Division of Minerals and Geology
2148 Broadway, Suite C-5
Grand Junction, Colorado 81503
Dear Mr. Renner:
Re: Mid-Continent Resources - Coal Basin Property
Environmental Site Assessment Work Plan
This letter transmits, on behalf of Mid-Continent Resources, our response to the May 8,
1996, comments from the Division of Minerals and Geology(the Division)on the Environmental
Site Assessment Work Plan for Mid-Continent Resources' Coal Basin property and our
discussions at the site on May 13, 1996.
Based on the Division's comments and our subsequent discussions at the site, the scope
of the initial field component of the Environmental Site Assessment has been modified to address
the water-quality issues related to the discharge from the haulage tunnels and the Sutey, Old
Refuse, and Rock Tunnel Waste Piles separately, rather than sampling combined flows. These
changes have been incorporated into Table 1 which forms part of the Work Plan. A copy of our
revised Table 1 is attached for your reference.
Those clarifications and comments from the Division pertaining to the responsibilities of
the various parties and the Environmental Site Assessment Report will be addressed at the time
that the report is prepared.
If you have questions or if we can provide any additional information, please contact
either Ms. Diane Delaney with Mid-Continent Resources at (970) 945-4958 or me at (303) 988-
7270.
Very___tr_.u_.l_Yyouurs,
1tLAN & SOCIATES, INC.
Richard L.
