(Resources) has proposed <br /> the transfer of approximately 5, 700 acres of Coal Basin land to the <br /> United States Forest Service (FS ) by exchange. The first exchange <br /> parcel is expected to be tendered within the next few weeks which <br /> will involve acquisition of a tract exteiidiilCJ- iroiu Placita <br /> southwesterly toward Bear Creek. <br /> The FS wants to also acquire the portal sites of the mine <br /> to the extent they are on fee lands, particularly the former Coal <br /> Basin townsite tract - No. 5 Mine area. The fee owned #5 Mine <br /> portal area has been substantially reclaimed, and the other areas <br /> have been partly reclaimed, but additional work is necessary. The <br /> FS requires acceptable reclamation as a pre-condition to exchange, <br /> or alternative arrangements to assure completion of reclamation <br /> ( such as escrowed funds) . At a meeting on October 6, 1994, Mr. <br /> Kevin Riordan suggested prioritization of reclamation tasks and Mr. <br /> Steve Renner for DMG agreed that he would submit a proposed <br /> prioritization schedule by Thanksgiving. The intent, as I <br /> understand, was that if funds are committed to reclamation <br /> including the fee portal areas and provisions are made to implement <br />
