EAST FORK BRUSH CREEK
The aquatic macro invertebrate commmunity indicated that there was
good water quality and good instream substrate in the reach sampled.
Cleanwater species included the mayflies ",r with a good resident
population, RUj&h&g,ggiijg, and gggrg;" , one of the most sensitive
of the mayflies, with a good resident population, stoneflieslgg,
and ggp There were indications of a moderate amount of
nutrients in this ecosystem. Sedimentation did not appear to be a problem.
The number of shredders in the community is generally found where riparian
habitat is in fairly good condition, and the diversity and resident
population numbers for many of the taxa indicated there was good stability
in this ecosystem.
The potential for a resident fishery on this stream appeared to be
fairly good. Cleanwater species present indicated there would be suitable
spawning substrate available, and the macro invertebrate biomass of 1 .0
g/m2 could provide nutrients for a fairly good fishery but was low for a
stream with 71 mg/l alkalinity.
The BCI value of 96 indicated that this ecosystem was close to its
potential, and a management option might simply be to maintain existing
good conditions in this aquatic ecosystem. This stream also will provide
an excellent basis for evaluation of the effects of establishment and
operation of a ski area within this drainage.
7
