2. 04 . 9 Soils Resource Information
1 . Comment An order 4 soils survey is sufficient for
those portions of the permit area that will remain
undisturbed, but a more intensive survey is required
for those areas which will be disturbed in the future.
A SCS order 2 soil survey or the equivalent is needed
for the rock tunnel dump, future refuse disposal area
and any other area of future disturbance. The soils
must be delineated by series wherever possible and no
lower than great group. Also, a description of a
typical profile must be 'included for each soil type.
Reply An order 2 soil survey was completed on May
22 on the projected coal refuse disposal area and is
added as Appendix III-G-2 . With respect to the rock
tunnel disposal area, it is believed that the required
surveys have been accomplished. See Vol. 2, App. II=B-
5, Pages 17 to 21; also Map II-B-App. 5-4 , tunnel
refuse area in Vol . 2 .
Vol. 6 , Sec. G, (Add new survey data as Appendix
III-G-2 ) .
2. Comment Analyses of the topsoil stockpiles must be
included. The required analyses are: electrical
conductivity, ph, SAR, calcium, magnesium, sodium,
saturation percentage, percent organic matter and
textural analyses.
Reply Samples for analysis of permanent topsoil
piles were taken on May 22 . Results are attached and
will be included in the reference listed below.
Vol. 6 , Sec. G, (Add as Appendix III-G-3) .
3. Comment A narrative or table must be supplied that
addresses the suitability of each major soil horizon as
a plant growth medium for the soils at the rock tunnel,
refuse disposal area and any other area of planned
future disturbance. This discussion should also include
the suitability of the soil materials on the mine pads,
road cuts, storage and operations areas , and topsoil
stockpiles.
Reply Ile believe that we have answered this require-
ment. See Vol . 6 , Sec G-3 pages 4 & 5, and Vol. 2,
App. II-B-5, Pages 17 to 21.
4 . Comment Since the applicant proposes to use materials
other than topsoil to revegetate the mine benches and
roads, the Division needs assurance that trace minerals
will not pose any problems. Additional analyses of
this proposed material must be submitted. These analyses
should include:
