E The present Class I haul roads will become light
use roads . The present width, 50 ' -60 ' , will be reduced to
30 ' -40 ' from the tunnel face-up area to the mine portal
areas . The reduction will be accomplished by moving the
inside ditch out into the road and allowing the cut to
slough behind the new ditch . Grading material will be
allowed to collect on the outside edge as a permanent berm
in areas not requiring snow removal grading . When cuts and
berms stabilize , soil samples will be taken and appropriate
soil amendments and fertilizers added prior to revegetation *
On completion of mining , reclamation work will be
done during two seasons since snow-cover precludes efforts
from October through Ifay . Accordingly, during the summer
working season, work will be done according to the following
schedule :
- First season . Reclaim Nos . 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 and S
mine portal areas .
- Second season . Reclaim tunnel and preparation
plant areas , and the Carbondale train loadout .
For each portal area , all structures not required
for the post-mining land use will be removed and either sold
intact or cut up for scrap . The rubble will be used in
sealing the portals , and placed against the face-up cut .
Portals will be sealed in accordance with the
requirements of MSHA for sealing of drift openings :
*See next page ( 22 . 1 ) and Appendix V-C-1 for further explanations .
2
