File No. M-77-378
Page Three
Using the 4: 1 mix ratio and the probable flow rate and travel
time, it will take 160 years after plug installation for the
Zn loading to approximate that presently allowed through the
CDPS permit numerical limit. Metal loading will still be an
order of magnitude less for Cd, Pb and Cu after 160 years.
Items 1 through 6 above use the most probable case for discussion
purposes and shows that plug installation is a viable option for
final reclamation ( ie stopping groundwater flow to surface from
the Sunnyside Mine property via the American Tunnel and Terry
Tunnel) . Please note that the studies or the above discussion does
not address groundwater intercepted by the American Tunnel outside
of the proposed plug site (0 ' - 7950 ' ) which is not owned by
Sunnyside Gold Corporation. This issue was discussed previously in
our 6/26/92 meeting.
Sunnyside Gold Corporation would like to meet with you and any
other Division staff you deem appropriate to discuss or answer
questions related to the bulkheads . Please call to discuss a
possible meeting schedule so we can arrange for our consultants to
attend and if possible, staff from the Colorado Department of
Health .
Sincerely,
Larry Perino
Superintendent-Technical Services
cc: John C.
