Box 948
Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81602
RE: Reclamation of Coal Basin Mine, Mid-Continent Resources, Inc.,
Permit No. C-81-017
Dear Mr. Lawton:
This letter is written as a follow-up to the joint inspections conducted on September 15
and 17, 1992, and the Mined Land Reclamation Board's tour on September 23, 1992. 1
would open by saying the inspection and tour were both helpful in clearing lines of
communication between our respective agencies, and, in a larger vein, highlighting the
need for cooperation between us so that the best possible reclamation of the Coal Basin
Mines can be accomplished.
Along this line, the Division requests the Forest Service submit a plan that reflects its
intention for the final disposition of the mine roads. It seems that there has been a change
in what was originally envisioned by the Forest Service. It is important that we have this
plan soon, as it is likely there will be revisions to the current Mid-Continent reclamation
plan.
In order to effect changes to their reclamation plan, Mid-Continent will need to submit a
request for a revision to their permit. Therefore, we recommend the Forest Service
coordinate the development of it's plan with Mid-Continent and us, to make the most of
everyone's time and efforts. We would like a copy of the final Forest Service plan to us
by October 16, 1992.
We enjoyed meeting with you, and look forward to working with you in the development
and implementation of the Coal Basin reclamation. We believe that through the upcoming
joint effort, we will be able to accomplish high quality work that will effectively address
both current and future land use concerns.
