selected pods. The sample pods will be randomly located throughout the Project Area in order <br /> to obtain a representative sample of the work performed. CONTRACTOR will be notified in <br /> advance of these inspections, and is encouraged to observe the inspections as they are <br /> conducted. <br /> a. Tree Handling —Trees not handled in accordance with the specifications above shall be <br /> rejected by Owner, and shall not be utilized, nor paid for. <br /> b. Planting Quality—Ten percent (10%) of the planting pods will be inspected for quality of <br /> planting. Specific inspection items include, but are not limited to: <br /> - Pod spacing <br /> - Tree spacing <br /> - Planting spot location <br /> - Planting spot preparation <br /> - Tree location on planting spot <br /> - Stem position or damage <br /> - Firmness <br /> - Shade <br /> - Planting hole preparation <br /> - Root configuration and orientation <br /> - Polyaccrylimide placement ' <br /> - Loose soil, air pockets or foreign material in hole <br /> The inspected pods will be marked by PROJECT MANAGER so that they can be re-visited by <br /> CONTRACTOR, if desired. Results of the inspection will be provided to the CONTRACTOR <br /> upon completion. If CONTRACTOR disagrees with the findings of the inspection, a re- �r <br /> inspection may be requested. The results of the re-inspection shall be used to determine the <br /> rate of pay. Should the re-inspection result in an equal or lesser rate of pay than the original -� <br /> inspection, CONTRACTOR shall bear the expense of the re-inspection. <br /> Measurement and Payment <br /> Measurement for payment shall be made as per the inspection results. Payment shall be made <br /> on a stem planted and accepted basis, as determined by the inspection. The percentage of <br /> trees planted and accepted, as determined from the inspection will be the basis for payment. <br /> The percentage of trees planted and accepted shall be applied to the total number of trees <br /> provided. The percentage of trees planted and accepted shall be multiplied by the number of <br /> trees specified for planting. The result shall determine the total number of trees to be paid at <br /> the unit price bid in Item 3 of the Bid Schedule. Payment will be made only for the price bid in <br /> Item 3 of the Bid Schedule, and as work is completed and approved by PROJECT MANAGER. <br /> PROJECT OBSERVATION <br /> The PROJECT MANAGER will be at the project site periodically to monitor construction <br /> activities. The PROJECT MANAGER will be available during regular business hours (8:00 A.M. <br /> to 5:00 P.M.) on weekdays. Inspections will not be scheduled on weekend days or holidays <br /> without prior approval of the PROJECT MANAGER. <br /> Inspection for payment will be accomplished on a random basis periodically throughout the <br /> duration of the Project. Contractor may request inspections of various planting sites throughout <br /> the duration of the Project, excepting the week of September 25, 2000, when PROJECT <br /> MANAGER will not be available. <br /> 9 <br />
