Measurement and Payment
Ditch 8 will be measured to the nearest linear foot. Measurement for payment will
consist of physically measuring the length of the channel. Payment for this task will be
paid for at the price established in Item 2 of the Bid Schedule per linear foot installed.
Such payment shall be considered full compensation for all labor, materials, equipment
and all other items necessary and incidental to the construction of the channel to the
specifications, including furnishing and placing liners, furnishing and placing excelsior
logs, placement of topsoil, distribution of seed and provision and installation of fertilizer
as directed and described in the specifications. Payment will be as this task is
completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for this task will be
made only for the unit price shown under Item 2 of the Bid Schedule.
TASK 3 FEEDER CHANNELS
Three (3) channels traverse the Sutey Refuse Pile from west to east, and contribute flow
to Ditch 8. These channels currently empty into the old Ditch 8 on its west side. After
completion of excavation of the new Ditch 8, and after filling of the old Ditch 8, these three
(3) side channels will be extended across the old Ditch 8 to the new Ditch 8. In order to
accomplish this, the side channel locations, where they traverse the now filled old Ditch 8,
will be cut level into the slope, and will have a fall of five percent (5%)toward the new
Ditch 8. The base of the channels shall be no less than two and one half feet (2.5') in
width. The cut slope on the uphill side of the feeder channels, and the berm to be built on
the outside will create the sides of the ditches.
Berms will be created on the outside of each of the side channels from ten feet(10') above
the old Ditch 8 to their junction with the new Ditch 8. These berms will be constructed of
topsoil derived from the Sutey Topsoil Stockpile. The berms will be three feet (T) in
height, and will have side slope no steeper than 1.5 H : 1 V. These berms must be
compacted in place during construction using a light dozer.
The new segments of the side channels will be topsoiled to a depth of four inches (4").
Topsoil will be applied to the inside, or cut side, of each feeder channel from the base to
the top of the cut. Topsoil will also be applied to the base of the feeder channels. As the
outside berm is constructed of topsoil, additional topsoil application is not required at that
location. In order to achieve successful application of the liner, specified below, it will be
necessary to remove clods and rock from the surface of the soil. A flat, uniform, rock-
and dip -free soil surface must be established prior to seed and fertilizer application.
The seed and fertilizer may not be applied until such a surface has been achieved.
Upon completion of topsoiling, diammonium phosphate fertilizer(18-46-0) shall be
applied at a rate of 300 pounds per acre. Seed, provided by the PROJECT MANAGER,
will be applied at the rate of ten pounds (10#) per acre.
After seeding and fertilization is complete, a liner shall be installed. The liner shall
consist of 100% coconut fiber encased top and bottom in heavyweight ultra violet
stabilized netting. Components shall be sewn on 1.5 inch centers. North American
Green 125 or approved equivalent is acceptable. The liner shall be installed per
manufacturer's specifications. The liner shall be applied so that it extends across the
base of the channel, and up each side a distance of at least two feet (2.0').
11
