STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION Of MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department or Natural Resources 04
1313 Sherman St.. Room 215
Phone (303)866-3567 M IN E RA L S
FAX.(303)832-8106 &
GEOLOGY
DATE: Ma 3 2000 RECLAMATION
y > MINING-SAFETY
TO: Coal Basin/Sutey Ditch 8 Reconstruction Project Bidders Bill Owens
Governor
r FROM: Steve Renner Executive Director
Michael B Long
RE: Amendment No. 1 Division Director
Thank you for attending the pre-bid meeting on May 2, 2000. A copy of the attendance list is
attached. Please note the following clarifications and amendments to the Coal Basin/Sutey Ditch 8
Reconstruction Project Invitation and Bid:
1. Task 2 Ditch 8 Reconstruction; The existing liner in the old Ditch 8 may be left in place.
2. Task 2 Ditch 8 Reconstruction; The old ditch, and any gullies or flat areas between the old ditch
and the Sutey Refuse Pile, shall be filled with either topsoil or dirt excavated from the New Ditch 8
so that a slope is created from the eastern margin (or edge) of the Sutey Refuse Pile sloping
eastward to the western crest of the newly constructed Ditch 8. If dirt from the excavation of the
New Ditch 8 is used, this material will be covered by topsoil as specified in Task 4, Adjacent Area
Topsoil Application, except that only six inches (6") of topsoil need be applied to the area west of
the New Ditch 8, and that this area would not be ripped prior to topsoil application. NOTE that the
Bid Specifications require a minimum fill depth of one foot (1') above the adjacent ground surface
at the old ditch 8. For purposes of clarification, adjacent ground surface is defined as that ground
surface immediately east of the old ditch 8.
3. Task 2 Ditch 8 Reconstruction; PROJECT MANAGER will stake the base and upper extent of
the New Ditch 8 prior to construction beginning. An approximate grade change location will also be
staked where the slope sharply breaks near the upper-most portion of the New Ditch 8.
CONTRACTOR will construct the New Ditch 8 to the specifications outlined in the Invitation and
Bid. The minimum specified widths and depths must be carried throughout the length of the
channel.
4. Task 2 Ditch 8 Reconstruction; CONTRACTOR is primarily responsible for checking the grade,
depth and width of the ditch as it is being constructed. PROJECT MANAGER will periodically
verify that the specified width and depths are being met.
