"eck Slots shall be ',installed on forty feet, raTl er t,an fifty feet , centers;
- Overlap of adjacent mats will be four inches (4"), rather than three inches (Y);
- Apply center mat first, then install adjacent mats to the outside of the ditch;
- The mat must extend a minimum of three and one quarter feet (3.25) outward from
each ditch crest.
After installation of the lower liner, an additional three inches (3") of soil shall be placed
over the top of the lower liner from the outside edge of the liner on the west side to the
outside edge of the liner on the east side. Rocks, clods, dips and bumps will be
removed from the soil surface to ensure that a uniform soil surface is created. This
upper soil surface must have no topographic variations, and it must be level from side to
side as measured perpendicular to the direction of flow. Raking of the soil surface is
required in order to achieve the desired degree of uniformity.
During topsoil application, ten feet (10') long, twelve-inch (12") diameter Excelsior Logs,
or approved equivalent, shall be installed within the ditch. These logs shall be placed on
fifty feet (50) centers, perpendicular to the direction of flow. The logs shall be placed so
that they extend evenly up each side slope for approximately two and one half feet (25).
Each log shall be placed so that it is in contact with the lower liner, and then staked in
place using a minimum of eight (8), two foot (2') long willow cuttings obtained locally by
CONTRACTOR. The minimum diameter of the willow cuttings shall be one and one half
inches (1.5"). Four (4) stakes shall be installed at the base of each log, and two (2) on
each side slope. A rubber hammer shall be used to drive the stakes into the ground.
The end of the stakes shall be cut on a forty five degree (45°) angle following installation,
so that any damage which results from driving the stakes into the ground, is cut off.
Six inches (6") of soil shall be uniformly placed against the logs on their upstream side,
while sufficient soil must be made available to ensure that the three inches (3") of topsoil
placed over the lower liner is in place and in contact with the log on the downstream
side.
Seed and fertilizer may not be applied until a uniform topsoil surface has been achieved,
and the logs have been installed and accepted.
Upon completion and acceptance of topsoil application and log installation, diammonium
phosphate fertilizer (18-46-0) shall be applied at a rate of 300 pounds per acre. The
fertilizer shall be supplied by the CONTRACTOR. Seed, to be provided by PROJECT
MANAGER, will be broadcast applied at the rate of ten pounds (10#) per acre.
After seeding and fertilization is complete and accepted, a soil stabilization mat, or
upper liner, shall be installed. Permamat 200f is supplied with an upper liner. If a
different liner system is proposed for use, the upper-liner must be equivalent to a
temporary stabilization blanket such as Xcel Excelsior Blanket - Superior. The fabric shall
be installed as per manufacturer's specifications.
Pinning of the upper liner immediately below the Excelsior logs, or approved equivalent,
shall be on eighteen-inch (18") centers at the downstream contact of the log, topsoil and
liner.
10
