areas. It is anticipated that no more than two hundred feet (200') of silt fence and fifteen to
twenty (15 to 20) bales of straw will be used. Straw bales must conform to the weed free
specifications described in Task 4, below. Sediment control during and following
construction shall be accomplished at the direction of PROJECT MANAG;=R.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a
lump sum bid under Item 1 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs
fort Mobilization and Demobilization. Payment shall be made as described in General
Bid Specifications 1996, Specification 1.0, Mobilization / Demobilization.
TASK 2 DITCH 8 RECONSTRUCTION
A drainage ditch was constructed on the south facing portion of the Sutey Refuse Disposal
Area in 1995. This ditch (old Ditch 8) did not function as desired, and will be
reconstructed. Ditch 8 will consist of a fabric-lined channel extending down the south-
facing side of the facility for a length of approximately 700 feet. When completed, this
ditch will be trapezoidal in shape, the base being no less than five feet (5') in width and the
side slopes being no steeper than 2 H : 1 V. The width of the ditch as measured from
crest to crest will be no less than sixteen feet(16'), and the total depth of the ditch as
measured from the base to the crest will be no less than two feet (2.0'). The attached
cross sections depict Ditch 8 construction. Large rock encountered in the channel during
excavation of Ditch 8 shall be removed from the channel, and stockpiled near the bottom
of Ditch 8 in a location to be specified by the PROJECT MANAGER.
Current Conditions
The existing drainage ditch is slightly incised into the relatively hard underlying Mancos
Shale. A synthetic mat or liner is in place, at the base of the ditch. Periodically, the mat is
exposed, while in many cases it is buried by a thin layer of soil. The mat was anchored to
the underlying substrate by wood and possibly metallic stakes. Numerous logs and larger
rock have been placed into the ditch since its construction.
Three small ditches, which drain the south and southwest portions of the refuse pile, report
to the 008 ditch along its western margin. Biodegradable liner was placed in these small
ditches when they were constructed in 1995. The liners may or may not still be in
existence.
Two shallow feeder ditches were constructed, and report from the north and northwest to
facilitate drainage from near the top of the refuse pile to the 008 ditch. Biodegradable liner
was placed in these small ditches when they were constructed in 1995. The liners may or
may not still be in existence.
t
Construction
The new channel will be constructed immediately to the east of the existing ditch. The
minimum excavated dimensions of the ditch prior to liner or topsoil installation shall be as
follows:
- The base of the ditch shall be six and one half feet (6.5') in width;
- Depth, from base to crest, shall be two and eight tenths feet (2.8');
8
