Box 448
Meeker, Colorado
81641
RE: Native Seed Propagation, Huntsman Project
Dear Steve:
Thank you for your March 30, 1998 proposal to have UCEPC grow out the Calamagrostis
purpurascens for Minerals and Geology. The Division would like to proceed with this project. I
will be sending the seed which was collected at the Coal Basin Mine to you within the next day
via UPS.
We would like to have the plant center put 0.2 acres into production for the purpose of
establishing a seed source. If the initial planting and harvest appears to be successful, it is likely
that we would be interested in increasing production next year, in order to secure a larger seed
source for fall, 1999.
It is my understanding that the cost to establish and maintain this level of production in 1998 will
be $1,200; $900 in a first invoice which would include costs for ground preparation, seed
cleaning, seed purity testing, seed germination testing, planting and plot maintenance. A second
invoice in the amount of$300 would include payment for late summer plot maintenance, seed
harvest, seed packaging and incidental supply and material expenses. In order to help speed
payment, please send invoices directly to me in Grand Junction.
Would you please send me any information which becomes available regarding seed germination
and purity. I would also like to collate as much information as possible about the planting rate,
seed production,'watering schedules and amounts, and all other incidental information regarding
your practices in cultivation of this material.
If you and your staff would like to make a site visit this summer to view the Calamagrostis
