Payment will be made only for the unit price bid in Item 4 of the Bid Schedule, <br /> and as work is completed and accepted by PROJECT MANAGER. <br /> TASK 5 TREE PLANTING <br /> Trees <br /> Containerized trees of the following species will be provided by CONTRACTOR: <br /> - Sub Alpine Fir <br /> - Engelmann Spruce <br /> - Douglas Fir <br /> CONTRACTOR will provide one thousand (1,000) trees per species, a total of 3,000 trees. <br /> Acceptable trees will be two years old and will be delivered in styrofoam boxes containing <br /> twenty trees each. The styrofoam boxes must contain individual partitions, separating the trees <br /> from each other. Each individual tree partition will be at least one and one half inches (1 1h") <br /> square, and must be at least seven inches (7") deep. Ninety percent (90%) of the trees in each <br /> container must be between five inches (5") and twelve inches (12") in height. <br /> Tree Planting <br /> Planting of trees will occur in the following manner: <br /> Hand tools <br /> It is anticipated that all trees shall be hand planted. The hand tools used by CONTRACTOR <br /> shall have a minimum fourteen inch (14") length and four inch (4") minimum width planting <br /> blade. The head or scalping blade of a mattock is not to be included in the minimum length <br /> measurement. Use of dibbles and planting bars is not allowed. <br /> Care of Trees <br /> Trees will be protected at all times from drying, heating, smothering, freezing, crushing, <br /> drowning, abrasion, rapid temperature fluctuations, or contact with injurious substances. <br /> Shipping containers containing trees shall be opened only in full shade, and shall not be <br /> exposed to direct sunlight. Shipping containers shall not be dropped or tossed. Punctured or <br /> torn shipping containers shall be immediately sealed. <br /> Trees will not be removed from shipping containers until needed for planting. <br /> Trees will be planted without root or top pruning. If culling is necessary, or if mold, dry roots, <br /> evidence of injury or dying is observed, the condition will be immediately brought to the attention <br /> of the PROJECT MANAGER. <br /> Trees in planting bags or trays shall have only their tops exposed. <br /> Trees shall not be removed from planting bag or cell until immediately before planting. They <br /> shall be gently removed one at a time to prevent injury, and quickly and gently inserted into the <br /> planting hole. <br /> 11 <br />
