Continued Temporary Cessation of Operations. <br /> Dear Mr. Mathews: <br /> Mid-Continent Resources, Inc. previously advised the Division that <br /> cessation of operations on January 25, 1991 would likely continue <br /> longer than 30 days. <br /> As of this date, the temporary cessation remains in effect, <br /> although the property is being maintained with the intention of <br /> renewing production upon purchase of the mine and transfer of the <br /> permit. Mid-Continent anticipates that such a purchase will occur <br /> within the next year, with resumption of production to occur at the <br /> discretion of the new owner. <br /> During this period of temporary cessation, environmental <br /> monitoring, which consists primarily of monitoring water quality at <br /> designated discharge points, and at surface and groundwater <br /> monitoring sites, will continue as previously approved. <br /> Mine drainage water is routed as previously through the 016 pond <br /> series for treatment, and runoff from disturbed areas is routed <br /> through sediment ponds, as provided in the approved permit. <br /> Snow has begun to melt at the mine site, and Mid-Continent <br /> anticipates that the cleaning of ditches and culverts, and general <br /> repair and maintenance activities which are necessary after the <br /> winter snowpack recedes, will be carried out as ground conditions <br /> permit. In addition, outside berms along the haul roads will be <br /> removed to comply with the wishes of the U.S. Forest Service. <br /> Reclamation activity completed to date includes the topsoiling and <br /> seeding of all but one acre of the old refuse pile, and some <br /> topsoiling and seeding of the new Sutey site.
