ATTACHMENT 2
Process Flow Description
Present System
1 . "White pipe" which conveys flow from underground workings to
the surface through the rock tunnel.
2 . Flocculant tank for the 016 pond(s) .
3 . The 016 sediment ponds.
Underground Sizing Screen
4 . Underground screen for removal of coarse solids.
Water Treatment Plant
5. Pipeline conveys flow from tunnel to plant and recycle
sump/hydrocyclone.
6 . Underflow from hydroclone, containing middling solids, goes
into the wash plant cycle. Overflow re-circulates to re-cycle
sump.
7 . Overflow from the recycle sump, containing very fine (-200
mesh) solids proceeds to flocculation.
8. Flocculant tank.
9. Mine water is flocculated.
10. Recycle sump maintains continuous rate of flow to hydroclone
separator.
Alternatives
As indicated, the primary treatment for mine drainage will be the
016 ponds and the water treatment plant, with the 020 pond for
"finishing. "
However, Mid-CQntinent wishes to utilize the eight ponds of 016 ,
001 and 020, as well as the water treatment plant and the coal
preparation plant to allow maximum flexibility in management of
mine water treatment, so that the approved system has back-up
capabilities and alternatives.
